Dear Bob,

In 2005, I survived a near-death medical crisis and then in 2006 (and 7), I went through an extremely messy divorce leaving me a forty-something single mom, starting over with nothing.  My daughter is only 8, and is having a hard time watching me cope.

When I heard Keith Urban’s song, “Better Life”, I adopted the lyrics as mine, and my daughter’s since we are headed for that “better life”.  I’m certain of it!   I often wonder if Mr. Urban has any clue how special that song has become to someone like me.  Heck… it’s an anthem of sorts.

When I get down in the dumps, I can hear “Better Life” and it makes everything seem right again.  I know my daughter and I are headed in the right direction!

Dear Bob,

Today, would you be so kind as to play “Arlington” by Trace Adkins?

I am a Vietnam veteran, serving in 1967 and 68 and after my discharge, I spent 27 years as a deputy sheriff before retiring.  These days, I ride with the Patriot Guard Riders and we attend military funerals and to “welcome home” and send-off missions for our military troops.

Last year, I rode from Florida to Washington (D.C.) for the Memorial Day parade.  There, 350 thousand motorcycles lined up in the Pentagon parking lots and rode to the Vietman Veterans’ “wall”.  When i went to Arlington National Cemetery, I stood in awe of all those who’d given “all” for their country.

We as American citizens need to remember what the cost of freedom is.  It’s there….in the rows and rows of white granite markers in cemeteries all over this great country of ours.  God bless those who have served to protect us.

Thank you.

Ellenton, FL
