I am a small town girl who loves country music. I work, go to school, and spend as much time with my friends, family, boyfriend, and new puppy as possible! I would like to make a special request for September 11th. 10 years ago, it was a seemingly a normal day, though a bit special for me. It was my 13th birthday when everything fell to pieces and no one was sure of anything for the days, months and years to come. People say how horrible that my birthday falls on 9/11, but I don't believe that it is. It was a day of incredible tragedy, but it also brought us closer as a nation. Now more than ever, we need to work together for the present and the future good of Americans and our neighbors around the world. The song “Where the Stars and Stripes and The Eagle Flies” expresses my feelings against those men who did us wrong and is an excellent way to say we will never stop fighting back to protect our freedoms!
Like most Americans, I can clearly remember where I was when the events of 9/11 began unfolding. I remember the hollow feeling in my stomach as we learned that planes had crashed into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and in that Pennsylvania field. But of all the emotions I felt surrounding that time, the one I keep coming back to is the feeling of love for our country that united us in those early days. Nothing in my lifetime seems to have brought us closer together as a people. When it seems like our differences threaten to engulf us, I think back to the way this terrible tragedy somehow made us one. Some years ago, Ray Charles recorded a song that brings that feeling back –- and it’s one I hope you might play, as we stop to ponder those events - of ten years ago..."America the Beautiful."
